How to add music and audio in iMovie iOS (iPhone/iPad)High quality video NEEDS high quality audio to complete the audio visual experience, so in this video. IMovie allows you to add music, sound effects, and voiceover narration to your video project on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac. On iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch you can add songs you've downloaded to your device in the Music app, your own custom songs created in an app like GarageBand or custom sound effects stored in iCloud Drive, on your device, or in another location.

The iMovie app on iOS comes with a few trailer templates that let you create your own trailer easily in a matter of minutes. However, it does not seem possible to add your own music to the project. iMovie wants to force you to stick with whatever music goes with the chosen template. Luckily, there is a quick workaround to remove the default track and add your own music to the video without using a computer.

The solution for using your own music in a trailer created by iMovie is to import the trailer back to iMovie, mute the default track, and add your own track on top of the muted one. Here is the step-by-step guide.

How To Add Apple Music To Imovie On Ipad

In iMovie for the iPad, there is not a way to add an audio file directly from iMovie (only music files from certain folders)

Instead, add your audio file to Google Drive and open it in iMovie.

In Audacity

  • Export your video (file menu > export > as a WAV file > name your file)
  • Open Chromium (the web browser), go to Google Drive (drive.google.com), sign in, and drag your audio file to your Google Drive

On your iPad Google Drive

  • Open Google drive and click on the audio file
  • Click the 3 dots and choose Open in, then More, and choose Copy to iMovie

In iMovie

      • Open iMovie
      • Under Projects, you will see “My Movie” with a film strip icon
      • Click on the film strip picture or, if it asks, choose Create New Movie
      • It will open the iMovie edit window and put the audio down into the Timeline
      • Play to make sure your audio is there
      • Add more media such as videos or photos to the Timeline
