It's been 20 years since we last were able to control the likes of Street Fighter 3's mysterious and powerful turtle hermit and it'll still be another year yet before we get him in Street Fighter 5, but Capcom has revealed that Oro is en route as a DLC character for SF5's fifth and final season.

Summary Oro is an ancient, mysterious hermit who seeks a fighter that is worthy to inherit his fighting style. He is of Japanese descent and hails from the Amazon Jungle, where he lives in a cave with his many pets, including a turtle and a dog.

As we saw with Akira, Rose, and Dan last week Capcom has posted a new sketch image of Oro to the Street Fighter Twitter page. This one appears a bit more introspective than the first, which sees Oro hoisting his turtle up above his head, as the old hermit gazes directly into the eyes of his pet.

Though we didn't see much of this turtle figure in Oro's Street Fighter 3 appearance, it looks to be front and center for the character now. Street Fighter 5 Director, Takayuki Nakayama, was sure to point out that he and his team are designing Oro to have some sort of special balance mechanic involving his reptilian friend.

For those who didn't play a ton of Third Strike, this old fighter is so powerful that he uses some of his own magic to bind one of his arms into a sling. He does this so as to even out fights as he'd presumably roll through all comers given the use of both hands. This theme looks to continue in an interesting way in SF5 as both arms are out, but the turtle must be accounted for.

This is the fourth of such sketches Capcom has released in recent weeks as we also got new looks at Dan, Rose, and Akira. We've included these in the gallery below for those of you haven't seen them yet or that simply want to check them out once more.

Dan, Rose, Oro, and Akira Kazama (from Rival Schools) make up four out of the five characters planned for Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition's Season V roster. It looks like some of these characters will play a bit differently than how we remembered them from previous entries in the series.

Apparently, Oro will challenge himself to fight while balancing a turtle on his hand. According to the additional details about the four new characters, this will have some sort of impact on Oro's attacks.

'With one of the most unconventional playstyles in Street Fighter history, Oro uses only one of his arms to fight by utilizing various unorthodox attacks, including balls of light and pulling rocks from the ground to orbit around him as a shield,' said the PlayStation blog. 'Although you can see he has both arms out in this sketch, one of them is holding… a turtle! This is actually a part of Oro’s fighting style, as he challenges himself to keep the turtle in his hand balanced during the fight. How will this affect his moves in Street Fighter 5?'

Immediately upon reading this, I recalled a scrapped concept of Akuma that was drafted before he was finalized for Street Fighter 5. At one point, the developers played with the idea of having Akuma look after a baby while he fought.

'In his V-Trigger, the baby would fall asleep, which allowed him to use his full power. It would never fall off of his back. We figured we'd eventually be able to introduce the baby, after it's grown up, as 'raised by Akuma.' What a weird idea.'

Of course, it's easy to see how there might be a problem with this idea. If the baby was always on Akuma's back, then that means the baby would be crushed under Akuma's weight if he were to ever be knocked down. This happens often during Street Fighter 5 matches.

Essentially the idea here is that Akuma wouldn't be able to use his full power until the baby fell asleep — during his V-Trigger. Akuma would have to hold back, most likely so the infant wouldn't be frightened by his powers.

Although the two are very different, Akuma and Oro share a lot of similar themes with one another. Both characters are known for being among the most powerful characters in Street Fighter lore, but they both tend to hold back in most confrontations.

This time, it seems that Oro will be restraining one of his hands as he keeps a turtle balanced. I can't help but think that this is some sort of evolution of what the developers had in mind with the idea that Akuma could take care of a baby as he fought.

Perhaps Oro will set aside the turtle and fight with both hands after activating one his V-Triggers.
